CD LAUNCH CONCERT – 19TH MARCH 2010
CNMC are delighted to announce a celebration concert for the launch of their CD. This will be at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff on 19th March 2010, alongside pop group Spencer McGarry Season. The Collective will be performing excerpts from the CD, in the form of music by Paul Jones. We hope to see you there and will keep you updated. There is also a link to follow very soon so as you can get your very own Limited Edition copy of the CD.

Recordings are ongoing for the Collective’s forthcoming release, entitled ‘CNMC:Chamber Works’. The CD will contain music by composers Keith Tippett, including the work he dedicated to them – Whisper. There will also be two pieces by Sound and Music (formerly SPNM) – shortlisted composer Paul Jones which the Collective premiered – Spring, Leaf, Spring and More Fifty Favourite Songs Everyone Loves to Hear. Also featured is a Clarinet and Tape piece by Deri Roberts. We will announce a release date soon.

Late 2008 will see the Collective again appearing alongside some inspiring artists. 23rd October sees the Collective at the Gate Arts Centre in Cardiff with ‘Roshi Feat. Pars Radio’ – a group performing Iranian folksongs as well as original compositions. Then, on November the 8th, they are appearing at Canton Uniting Church in Cardiff with pianist Heleen van Hagenborgh and sonic artist Jez Riley French.

Following their very enjoyable appearance at the Swn, the Collective are delighted to be able to confirm two dates for the start of 2008. The first is a triple-bill with an improvising trio (piano and live electronics), and the harpist and sound-recordist Rhodri Davies. The venue is to be confirmed so watch this space. The Collective have also been invited to participate in the celebrations of composer Michael Berkeley‘s 60th birthday in the form of the ‘Berkeley @60: Cardiff Connections’ Festival. They will be giving concerts alongside Music Theatre Wales, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Again, more details to follow.

CNMC have been invited to play at Cardiff’s inaugural Swn Festival taking place in November of this year. In a bill consisting mostly of new pop music, the Collective will be the only group to perform contemporary classical music. In an exciting bill consisting of Steve Lamacq and Beirut amongst others, it promises to be an exciting event. More to come….

Two dates are planned for foyer performances at the Wales Millennium Centre. The Collective will present two concerts in 2007 – 28th January and 19th March, during which they will present world premieres of new music by Welsh composers. These are lunchtime concerts and are free to all!

Chapter Arts Centre date announced – 28th January 2007, 8pm. The Collective will showcase premieres of music from a selection of Cardiff-based talent – including a short film with live music and electronics.

The Collective are delighted to report that they’ve been invited to perform at Swansea’s Glynn Vivian Gallery in conjunction with an exhibition exploring elements of randomness and chance. More to follow….

Thanks to all those who came to last week’s concert at the Conway Church – it was great to have such an appreciative audience! Those waiting with bated breath for our next performance need wait no more – the Collective will be appearing at Cardiff’s G39 Gallery on 20th August 2006. This is a free event! The Collective will be performing two works by Matthew Lovett – Traces and Elements, and it will involve manipulation of materials including earth, water, fire and so on. Keep your eyes peeled for further information including timings!

The Collective will be appearing at the Conway Church in Canton, Cardiff on 6th June 2006. This concert will be with the ‘Conway Suite’ – Deri Roberts’ and Dave Stapleton’s improvising duo of sax and church organ. Timings and directions to come soon!

CNMC to commission Keith Tippett! This world renowned pianist-improviser-composer wrote a small piece Whisper, as a present for the group last year. However, now with the help of funding from the Arts Council of Wales‘ and the PRS Foundation‘s ‘New Music Works’ Scheme, Keith is writing a new work for them, More Than Two Sides to a Story, for premiere next year. Watch this space!
